The National Historical Library of Agriculture will receive between 1 and 29 March Sacra sacrorum, the exhibition of jewelry sculptures by the artist Joseph Pace which from November 2018 to January 2919 was presented at the Pantheon in Rome. These are seven sculptures entirely made with jewels that illustrate through sacred and profane themes “The Sacred of sacred things”.

The exhibition marks the opening of the National Historical Library as an exhibition space for sculpture. Acclaimed artist since the mid-1980s, Pace, born in 1959, is one of the leading exponents of Filtranisme, the neo-existentialist artistic and philosophical current that he founded in Paris in the mid-1980s.

Chosen with the mission of inaugurating the National Historical Library for sculpture, the artist had to adapt his works to the format defined by the Italian historical heritage department. Among the sculptures in review there are four new works expressly for this exhibition in three months of work. The event was carried out in cooperation between the artist and the IPH of São Paulo who has already curated his monographs in Brazil at the Museo de Arte del Parliament and the CRC in São Paulo (2010), at the Teatro de Januariuna (2011) , at the Camara Municipal de Itapevi (2018), at the Pantheon in Rome (2018-2019). “Sacra sacrorum is practically a hymn to joy, a poem. It is inspired by some passages from Genesis, the first love letter of God to man “, explains Pace, who since 2012 has been admired by the Vatican authorities for his exhibitions at the Diocesan Museum of Amalfi (2012) and at the Basilica del Pantheon of Rome (23 November 2018 – 13 January 2019). “My work wants to be a message of identity and a call to spirituality”, adds Pace who has also exhibited at the Afro Brasil Museum in São Paulo (2014), at the Boncompagni Museum of the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome (2014), at the Florence Biennale (2015), at the Crocetti Museum in Rome (2015). The Italian artist’s exhibition inaugurates a new period for the National Historical Library of Agriculture, which has more than one million books of European and national historical importance to its credit. Unique of its kind, the Pace exhibition marks the new artistic vocation of space. An interactive application by the artist completes the exhibition. Joseph Pace’s works have also been the theme of exhibitions at the Embassy of Italy in Brasilia (2013) and at the Circolo Italiano in San Paolo (2015). Between 2005 and 2009, the artist went through a period of painful isolation that allowed him to rethink his artistic career and the purposes of art. It is from this moment that Pace defines his work as “an instrument of something greater” and begins to devote himself to new issues. “I looked at myself in the mirror and didn’t recognize myself anymore. It was a very difficult transition period. ” His line of work brings him closer to other artists, from the modernist Gustave Klimt, to the neo-dada Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg, to the kitsch of Damien Hirts and Jeff Joons, to the throwaway culture of Alejandro Marmo. The exhibition will be held from 1 to 29 March 2019 in the rooms of the National Historical Library of Agriculture, Palazzo dell’Agricoltura, Ministry of Agricultural, Food, Forestry and Tourism Policies, Rome, via XX Settembre.

La Biblioteca Storica Nazionale dell’Agricoltura riceverà tra il 1 e il 29 marzo Sacra sacrorum, la mostra di sculture di gioielli dell’artista Joseph Pace che da novembre 2018 a gennaio 2919 è stata presentata al Pantheon di Roma. Si tratta di sette sculture interamente realizzate con gioielli che illustrano attraverso temi sacri e profani “Il Sacro delle cose sacre”. La mostra segna l’apertura della Biblioteca Storica Nazionale come spazio espositivo alla scultura.

Artista acclamato dalla metà degli anni ’80, Pace, classe 1959, è uno dei massimi esponenti del Filtranisme, la corrente artistica e filosofica neo-esistenzialista che egli fonda a Parigi verso la metà degli anni ’80.

Scelto con la missione di inaugurare la Biblioteca Storica Nazionale alla scultura, l’artista ha dovuto adattare le sue opere al formato definito dal dipartimento del patrimonio storico italiano. Tra le sculture in rassegna ci sono quattro nuove opere espressamente per questa mostra in tre mesi di lavoro. L’evento è stato realizzato in cooperazione tra l’artista e l’IPH di São Paulo che ha già curato sue monografiche in Brasile al Museo de Arte del Parlamento e al CRC di São Paulo (2010), al Teatro de Januariuna (2011), alla Camara Municipal de Itapevi (2018), al Pantheon di Roma (2018-2019).
“Sacra sacrorum è praticamente un inno alla gioia, una poesia. Si ispira a alcuni passi della Genesi, la prima lettera d’amore di Dio all’uomo”, spiega Pace, che dal 2012 è ammirato delle autorità del Vaticano per le sue mostre al Museo Diocesano di Amalfi (2012) e alla Basilica del Pantheon di Roma (23 novembre 2018 – 13 gennaio 2019).
“Il mio lavoro vuole essere un messaggio di identità e di richiamo alla spiritualità”, aggiunge Pace che ha esposto anche al Museo Afro Brasil di São Paulo (2014), al Museo Boncompagni della Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna di Roma (2014), alla Biennale di Firenze (2015), al Museo Crocetti di Roma (2015).
La mostra dell’artista italiano viene a inaugurare un nuovo periodo per la Biblioteca Storica Nazionale dell’Agricoltura, che conta al suo attivo più di un milione di libri di importanza europea e storica nazionale. Unica nel suo genere, la mostra di Pace segna la nuova vocazione artistica dello spazio. Un’applicazione interattiva dell’artista completa la mostra.
Le opere di Joseph Pace sono state anche il tema di mostre anche all’Ambasciata d’Italia a Brasilia (2013) e al Circolo Italiano di San Paolo (2015). Tra il 2005 e il 2009, l’artista attraversa un periodo di sofferto isolamento che gli consente di ripensare al suo percorso artistico e alle finalità dell’arte. È da questo momento che Pace definisce il suo lavoro come “strumento di qualcosa di più grande” e comincia a dedicarsi a nuove tematiche. “Mi osservavo alo specchio e non mi riconoscevo più. È stato un periodo di transizione molto sofferto.”
La sua linea di lavoro lo avvicina ad altri artisti, dal modernista Gustave Klimt, ai neo-dada Jasper Johns e Robert Rauschenberg, al kitsch di Damien Hirts e Jeff Joons, alla cultura dello scarto di Alejandro Marmo.
La mostra si terrà dal 1° al 29 marzo 2019 nelle sale della Biblioteca Storica Nazionale dell’Agricoltura, Palazzo dell’Agricoltura, Ministero delle Politiche agricole alimentari, forestali e del turismo, Roma, via XX Settembre.
